Over the years, we have come to realize that there are many reasons for studying martial arts. Partnered with ATA, we have worked hard to develop programs that you will enjoy that will help you realize these goals.
Our students are individuals, each with their own goals and desires. Some students come to us in shape, while others begin training overweight and with limited flexibility. Adults start at any age and each has a purpose in mind that is unique to them. Whether the goal is fitness, self-defense, stress relief, or something else, the instructors strive to assist each student to achieve their purpose.
Our adult training provides a great workout that naturally relieves stress and built-up tensions. The fitness program is a head-to-toe, full-body workout that combines kicking, punching, aerobics, and the development of mental skills. At the beginning level, it emphasizes simple body movements that allow people of all ages and fitness levels to get in shape and to learn self-defense.
Workouts are varied to focus on different body parts and skill levels. Beginning at the basic level through more advanced belt ranks, training will include strength building and cardio-exercises, and gentle stretching to increase flexibility, avoid post-workout muscle soreness, and to complete a stress-relieving workout.
Fitness - The principles of Taekwondo techniques are based on the design of your body. For power you will develop the larger, powerful muscles of the torso. The speed of the techniques comes from the fast, agile muscles of the arms and legs. As you progress in Taekwondo your training, you will learn to coordinate this speed and power, and develop a concentration to focus all of your body's strength into a small, hard striking surface like the edge of the hand or the heel of the foot.
Self-Defense - When the speed and power developed through Taekwondo training is used in a self-defense situation against soft vulnerable parts of an attacker's body, the result can be incredible. The method of training increases self-defense abilities that are efficient against a much larger opponent. Knowing you can defend yourself, your confidence will grow.
Self-Confidence - This does not come naturally for many people, but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Through our focused training, you accomplish new goals and your confidence level increases. Taekwondo instills a sense of discipline and self-confidence that can carry over to all aspects of your life.

For each level of training that the student accomplishes some form of reward is given that the student wears as part of their uniform. The most recognizable of these markings is the color of their belt. This reward and recognition represents the foundation of the training system; goal setting and personal victories that come from accomplishing these objectives. Each success is rewarded, providing increased confidence in their training and personal lives.
Students learn and practice techniques that are specific to their skill level. Progressive training is incorporated to vary workouts and to continually improve the student’s abilities. Students learn sequences of techniques called ”forms” or ”patterns” and practical self-defense techniques for their skill-levels that must be demonstrated to the instructor's satisfaction before moving on in their training. Learning and being able to appropriately use these techniques will require memorization skills, along with the ability to mentally process situations and to react to them appropriately.
Our instructors know that each student possesses different physical abilities. We will work with you to develop strong basic techniques that will enhance your physical abilities and maximize your self-defense skills at every level of training.
